Notes

This post holds the stuff from today that didn’t deserve its own post.

Political notes

Unemployment is sky-high for teens and young adults.

The U.S. youth employment rates for both 16- to 19-year-olds and 20- to 24-year-olds have dropped to lows not seen in more than 50 years. State-by-state employment rates vary significantly, ranging from 18 percent to 46 percent for teens and
from 51 percent to 75 percent for young adults.

Youth and Work

I recently hit 0.00 in my bank account, but by definition I’m doing better than 1 in 4 Minnesotans in my age range.

Dr. William Davis claimed on CBS This Morning that modern wheat, genetically engineered from traditional wheat, is an opioid. Seems everybody is saying to go paleo anymore.

Steve Sailer has another byzantine op-ed in Taki’s Magazine that talks about the future of race relations by talking about the 1960s. His roundabout style can be simultaneously mesmerizing and irritating.

Stubs

A good old Chinese remedy (but not really) for sore throat and congestion is coffee sweetened with honey. The honey soothes your throat (it’s a life saver for strep) and coffee is a fantastic decongestant. You can replace coffee with tea, but it doesn’t work as well.

I’ve enshrined Tolkien as a literary idol. I believe he is the greatest author of the century, and possibly in all written history. Once I have some chops I’ll be studying and imitating his writing style and world-building techniques.

Trivia

I’m sick today, so you should expect either a billion posts or zero posts if the off-brand acetaminophen knocks me out. Traditionally I’d work anyway, but old age has made me too lazy and hopefully too wise as well.
