All education reforms are foolish

I’ve decided to elevate this from a maxim to a principle because I’ve never seen a counterexample.

“The Chicago Public Schools, the third-largest public school system in the United States, announced a five-year plan today that would add at least one computer science course to every CPS high school, and elevate computer science to a core requirement instead of an elective. CPS announced this through a partnership with, stating that the non-profit would provide free curriculum, professional development, and stipends for teachers.”

Let’s see, we’re talking high school…so that means you can rely on them to know how to type a double-spaced paper in MS Word and use Facebook. Oh wait, scratch the former, this is Chicago. Now design a curriculum. Also, I think it would be great if you got all the kids up to speed on integral calculus, gotta compete in that global economy!

I hear they have a couple of those high-end public schools like New York. “High-end” means Tiger moms scared away all the welfare moms with meat cleavers.

Ya know, I write shit like this and start to think I must finally be going crazy, and then going to work is like therapy. Oh yeah, it really is everyone else in the world who is crazy. It’s kind of a relief. A pothead asked me yesterday what I think of, like, life and everything. I answered in perfect honesty that I’m extremely confused about the whole mess.
