Idiocy or conspiracy?

Found this while trawling for lookalikes. I think the main divide between political cynics/realists is their answer to this dichotomy:

The more I observe people to be self-consciously deceitful, evil, and cruel, the more I think it is the former. This makes me a conspiracy theorist, who assumes that the top people like to insulate themselves with a layer of dullards underneath. A proper conservative assumes the latter. In response, I claim that plausible deniability is for chumps.

A quintessential upper-middle class lady who has Parkinson’s, a pinnacle of respectability (her downtown Lutheran church imported a gay pastor from Alabama), once whispered to me that she really didn’t like to be cared for by black people. As cognitive function breaks down, you see a lot of this sort of thing.

As I said once over at VP, Hanlon’s Razor is enemy propaganda, devised by the malicious and disseminated by the stupid.

  2. Heaviside says:

If they’re evil they should be gassed, if they’re stupid they should be gassed twice.

Bolshevik morality is purely consequentialist. Who cares if they have good intentions or not? The only thing that matters is if they are on the right side of history. Both the evil and the stupid will only be convinced through the relentless application of terror, so what is the functional difference? Just gas them now and let God sort out the ones with pure intentions. History is not the theatre of morality. “Values exist in a transcendental realm, beyond space and time. They can neither be fought for, nor destroyed.”

If Hanlon’s razor is enemy propaganda, it only works because conservatives are naive fools. They ought to become National Socialists instead. “[Socialism] is not love. [Socialism] is a hammer which we use to crush the enemy.”

      Lolz.

It seems we only disagree on the morality bit, which is why we disagree on socialism. I’m all for the nationalist bit (hence all the neanderthal stuff), but the use of socialism as a WMD requires a Just War theory that I haven’t yet envisioned.

In the defense of the church, anything is justified. In any case, the revolution is inevitable, so there’s nothing you can do about it and you can’t be held morally responsible. You’re just the plaything of larger world-historical forces. If you find yourself doing something that sickens you, just remember that it can’t be that bad or God/the materialist dialectic would have stopped you.

Denn wer kampft fur das Recht,
        Der hat immer recht!

      • Aeoli Pera says:

        >In the defense of the church, anything is justified.

Doesn’t work. The church is a body of souls, which doesn’t need to be defended from physical attacks or bodily torments. Speaking generally, these actually tend to help the church slim down to fit back in its college jeans.

        >In any case, the revolution is inevitable, so there’s nothing you can do about it and you can’t be held morally responsible. You’re just the plaything of larger world-historical forces.

I meant a theory in the Christian scholastic tradition. Aquinas, not Kant.

        >If you find yourself doing something that sickens you, just remember that it can’t be that bad or God/the materialist dialectic would have stopped you.

Without free will, there is no point to Christianity. The big idea is submission, rather than coercion.

      • Heaviside says:

Well, all you’ve done is point out that you can’t have Marxism without Protestantism(think predestination).

      • automatthew says:

Been reading Tedor’s Hitler’s Revolution. Confirms my suspicion that the NSDAP were subverting (or superverting) the meaning of the word “socialism”. NSDAP socialism was diametrically opposed to Marxist socialism.

        • Aeoli Pera says:

Could be, but these days I don’t give much thought to alternative economic systems. They don’t matter much to prosperity. On the other hand, they do seem to be a good warning sign, like a shot across the bow.

      • automatthew says:

        “alternative economic systems”

Tedor’s thrust is that it wasn’t an alternative economic system. It was a superversion of Marxist pandering to workers that was social in nature, not economic. Google “strength through joy” for an example. They were, says, Tedor, joyfully serious about Arbeit macht frei.

    • automatthew says:

      The might side of history.

  3. automatthew says:

Gassing is a stupid and ineffective manner of destroying your enemies en masse. Only fools would consider it as a tool.
