I don’t really think pop artists write good vocals (if by vocals you mean lyrics). It’s usually something shitty and generic about having sex or falling in love.
Older pop music (psychedelic rock, glam rock) could have good lyrics. Bands like Rush and Pink Floyd could write thought-provoking lyrics quite well.
No, I don’t mean the lyrics. I mean they write good melodies for singing. I’ve never paid much to lyrics anyway- in fact, one of the things I like about metal is that I can’t hear whatever retarded message the singer came up with.
But I’ve never been much for poetry either, so there’s that. I just don’t get poetry. There’s no impact for me when I read it.
