On alchemists

The function of an alchemist within the Overwatch hierarchy is to shape population genetics through the strategic use of money systems, by promoting politicians who support policies which will shape daily behaviors and worldviews in the general population. Worldview is expressed in many little everyday choices, these choices become habits, habits become character, character becomes culture, and culture drives genetic selection. In the same way that a neurotic enforces the the rules*, a demagogue maintains the institution, a technocrat enforces policy, and a politician enforces the state religion, an alchemist enforces an inherited vision of what humans ought to become. Their method, crudely speaking, is select and fund politicians who are predisposed to structure social mores that will realize the alchemist’s vision. This is merely the raw power dynamic, in reality it’s handled a bit more delicately through persuasion and networking.

For example, let’s imagine an old banking family in the United States has been tasked with raising the average conscientiousness and lowering the average independence of mind of Americans and, for simplicity, we’ll assume a closed-off breeding population so the alchemists aren’t allowed to bring in immigrant genetics. The mores of a society that would breed this sort of American would be distinctly Prussian, so a scion of this banking family is going to be very interested in politicians who preach the virtues of scholastic achievement tests (like the new SAT), and even moreso if the politician has a bit of Mandarin fever in his browser history. Such a politician does not need to be meticulously brainwashed and retrained to surround himself with technocrats who believe a PhD represents a moral responsibility to raise the proles’ average number of years spent in education.

Their power derives from a primordial understanding of money as an instrument for revealing preferences and convictions, which can be exploited to produce desired behaviors reliably. This is like having a mind-reading cheat code which lays bare everyone’s innermost desires and values, and an alchemist doesn’t so much engineer financial systems as play with them like a 12-year-old gray hat prodigy with root access. Their weakness is a fundamentally unserious attitude toward material reality. To call them solipsistic doesn’t really do it justice…it’s more like they’re born with the entire Gnostic religion latent in their genetic memory. On the one hand this detachment gives them the objectivity which enables their sociopathy, but on the other it starves them of real human connection so that the feeling of being seduced becomes an indulgent vice.

*Nowadays “the rules” = explicit professions of belief in the Narrative. Working backwards, we can imagine the sort of politicians an alchemist would select to create an “mandatory thoughtless buy in” type of state religion. Every time you click “I agree” on a EULA, your character is being shaped by this vision.

These profiles are becoming more difficult to write as they get farther from my immediate experience, so I’m going to tentatively say the first draft of Overwatch theory is now complete. There are dynamics between these archetypes to be explored but my intuition hasn’t hinted at any higher-level archetypes, although it’s plausible that more abstract functions enabling the globalist project could exist or already exist.

This would describe a Starchild or a high functioning thardy Owl Melon with Bayesian and Game Theory spergations. For example.

The big skull aliens who communicate telepathically to me in my dreams are asking where our Podcast is. They want to listen to it to determine my latest power level, to see whether I am on track to ascend to the super-intelligent hive mind consciousness in the UFOs travelling between galaxies through the centre of stars.

That makes sense. Thursday evening is the next time I’ll have a full hour to use my home desktop (which has Audacity), so presuming I can figure out how to trim the beginning and end off it’ll probably go up then.

        AYO *hols you up*

Melon pharao offspring, fooling around with the “staff”, as they are called in the current year. Sounds better than servants or slaves, you see.

Suffice it to infer that the above image validates the characterization of the below as your first take on spidermelons?

Basically, although I’m converging toward the opinion that spider melon is not a real type but rather what we’ve described as such is just the purer form of owl melon..

The viscerality of enjoying bloodshed seems to differ fundamentally from amaterialistic societal value weaving.

            Furthermore:
“A politician exists to use their funding sources to seek out and secure more funding. They do this by sensing, navigating, and appealing to other people’s value systems, while having no fixed morals of their own.”

So how can an alchemist have any confidence a politician will stay on target? Just comes down to mind reading? And if politicians are reliant upon alchemists for funding, wouldn’t there be a competitive dynamic there where politicians try to schmooze ‘mists, which fails because mind reading? Is this where the noted networking/persuasion comes into play?

And their motivation- is it love of the game, as the hacker metaphor implies, in a similar fashion to demagogues (“render unto me my fief to operate as I please and I’ll concurrently enact your bidding”?) Why are they motivated to receive and follow orders?

As as long as we’re tossing out unanswerable questions, what would a spiderthal hybrid look/behave like? We can examine Macron and perhaps Koanic.

Heh. You really ought to re-read “Ghost Not” sometime.

    • Aeoli Pera says:

I reread it yesterday and, while enjoyable, I didn’t pick up any new concepts. Is there something particular you’re alluding to?

      • Son of Distant Trebizond says:

The impossibility of maintaining “a fundamentally unserious attitude towards material reality” while engaging in the order of thought you ascribe to these ‘alchemists’.

        • Aeoli Pera says:

You’re assuming that a serious attitude toward reality would produce higher cognitive ability to navigate it. Is this true for other sorts of complex games?

          • Son of Distant Trebizond says:

No, I’m saying that at a sufficiently high level, an “unserious” attitude will derail your reality navigation. No promise of cognition for free, and serious most certainly does not imply unplayful. Perhaps I misunderstand your alchemist, though. Would you describe Marx as an alchemist, for example?

  3. Fox says:

Have you ever thought about the possibility that both globe and flat earth might be wrong?

  4. Ø says:

    >Their weakness is a fundamentally unserious attitude toward material reality

I get this vibe especially strongly from Jacob Rothschild.

    • Aeoli Pera says:

I believe it was glosoli who said the “Axe a Roffschild” thread was likely him.

      • Ø says:

        >the “Axe a Roffschild” thread was likely him.

        It’s pretty plausible.

        Also,
        >On the one hand this detachment gives them the objectivity which enables their sociopathy

I would say that “objectivity” (which is to say “extroverted” in the original sense of the term; i.e. oriented by objective, external data) only really enables sociopathy if it’s combined with a total lack of emotional sympathy.

My own cognitive suite is very “objective” (extraverted), yet I have a pretty serious attitude toward material reality as well as very high emotional sympathy.

        • Ø says:

So, I think if you shortened the sentence fragment “On the one hand this detachment gives them the objectivity which enables their sociopathy” to “On the one hand, this detachment enables their sociopathy” it would be more true.

          • Ø says:

TL;DR sociopathy has more to do with detachment, lack of investment, and gnosis than it does with objectivity; objectivity is only a cohabitant of sociopathy when no emotional sympathy is present
