Plot-driving friendships similar to Gilgamesh and Enkidu

Looking for examples of MMs being friends with TTs and how this turns out in fiction. Starter list:

Guts and Griffith in Berserk (ends badly)
Ramza and Delita in Final Fantasy Tactics (ends bittersweet)
Brandon and Harry in Gungrave (the anime, ends bittersweet)
Zack and Sephiroth in Final Fantasy 7 (ends badly)
Will Turner and Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean (ends well)
Ed and Al in Fullmetal Alchemist (ends bittersweet)
(To a lesser extent) Lelouch and Suzaku in Code Geass (ends bittersweet)
(Also to a lesser extent) Jet and Spike in Cowboy Bebop (ends bittersweet)

As you can see, I have a liberal education in great art. Please suggest any other examples you can think of. The list of Duo TV Tropes may inspire your recall.

  1. Obadiah says:

    Leon Kennedy/Luis Sera in RE4

Lucca/Crono in Chrono Trigger (this relationship isn’t extremely important to the plot though)

    Lyanna Stark/Rhaegar Targaryen in ASoIaF
    Jorah Mormont/Daenerys Targaryen in ASoIaF
    Sam Tarly/Aemon Targaryen in ASoIaF
Duncan the Tall/Aegon V Targaryen in ASoIaF extended universe
Brienne of Tarth/Jamie Lannister in ASoIaF
    Bran Stark/Bloodraven in ASoIaF

  2. Obadiah says:

LIIVI/Taldeer from the /tg/ fanfic “Love Can Bloom”

  3. Aeoli Pera says:

    From elsewhere:

“I only have one example, but its a very good one- Master and Commander:The Far Side of the World ”

This is a very good one.

Still not sold on your typings of Chrono and Lucca. Don’t know the others.

  5. Obadiah says:

    Ben/Beverly from Stephen Kang’z “ITZ”

  6. Obadiah says:

    >Still not sold on your typings of Chrono and Lucca. Don’t know the others.

    Lucca is clearly Neanderthal.

Chrono I base off the implication from your own evaluation:

“This egg is one of two key items used to resurrect the protagonist Chrono, completing his reverse Behelit myth.”

Chrono is also “Luciferian” in the Steinerian sense (his main attacks are lightning-based)

  7. Aeoli Pera says:

I agree, Lucca/Chrono is a good example except they don’t interact much.

All of my examples are listed in format:

  9. aiaslives says:

    * Gordon Clark / Joe Macmillan in Halt and Catch Fire (TV series) (friendship)

    * That’s What I Am (2011) (conflict)

    Bad/Humorous examples:
Dwight / Jim from The Office? Doubtful IMO.
    Comedy films involving abusive bosses/mothers/teachers/FILs
Lion/Zebra in Madagascar (tilts Crom NEET more than T in some places)
Woody/Stinky Pete in Toy Story 2
    Ants/Grasshoppers in A Bug’s Life (group-level conflict)
    Swiss Army Man (2016) (lol)

  10. aiaslives says:

Emil / Demian (Hesse), maybe? I’m probably not remembering it correctly.

  11. Obadiah says:

  12. Obadiah says:

Amuro/Char (though they’re mainly fighting each other)

  13. Obadiah says:

    >Dwight / Jim from The Office? Doubtful IMO.

Jim seems like a Progressive Cro-Magnon. Robert California is the main melonhead character on The Office from what I can tell (I’ve only seen a few individual episodes of the show)

  14. Obadiah says:

  15. Obadiah says:

    Charles Xavier/Magneto

  16. aiaslives says:

    >Robert California
Totally forgot that character existed. Had to look up the actor just to be sure.
Ryan seems like a good watered-down melon.

  17. aiaslives says:

    Unbreakable (2000)

  18. Obadiah says:

    Sherlock Holmes/Watson would be MT/TM

  19. Obadiah says:

Yang Wen-li/Reinhard von Lohengramm from LOTGH
