Intro to job selection problem, SLOAN – MBTI – Big 5 correspondence chart

There are lists of jobs for people with various temperaments, and lists of jobs by IQ, but never anything for both at the same time. I.e. What if I’m an INTP with an IQ of 105? Mathematician is not a good job choice. Neither is mechanic. I think the best way is to first direct people to a list of jobs by personality type, which is then stratified by IQ category (something like “Very low, Low, Average, High, Very high). Then allow people to put themselves in the next category up if the particular occupation is intrinsically appealing (e.g. you can be a 120-IQ mathematician if math is already your hobby), and the next category down for occupations that are unappealing (e.g. you can be a good elementary teacher with the correct temperament and an IQ of 130 even if you hate kids).

Here’s a listing of job recommendations by Big 5: http://similarminds.com/global5/rcoai.html. Unfortunately this requires translation from SLOAN into Big 5 and MBTI, which are more familiar to most people.

Here’s a chart I made to do this, click through for bigger:

    Can’t see the chart.

ENTJ is something that I would associate w/ faster life-history. ENFP seems to be “architecturally” similar to ENTP but with reduced brain mass/faster life-history.

All the Big 5 stuff seems dead on the money.

Basically my bias is that the more predominant intuition (as opposed to sensing) is in your cognitive function profile the more likely you are to be a K strategist; the more predominant sensing is relative to intuition, the faster your life history strategy (intuition is the function of perception via the collective unconscious/supernatural as opposed to sensing which is perception of the physical world).

Then your evolutionary tribe size determines whether you’re introverted or extraverted

There’s some truth in this because openness is correlated with intelligence, and k-selection is required to breed for intelligence.

What are your go to IQ/personality tests battery these days Aeoli?

If I had to evaluate someone and give advice for career/job these days I’d probably go for:

    General IQ:
General Ravens => Norway IQ => https://test.mensa.no/ (have seen complaints with scoring for under 115 IQ) (there are a few other ones, but this one should do the job)

    Specialized IQ:
Verbal => Open Psych => https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/VIQT/ (comment below)
Spatial => I haven’t looked into these much

    Personality:
Personality => The Similar Minds http://similarminds.com/cgi-bin/personality_test.pl
Best if the person also has a parent/partner/close friend or two take a personality test for them also.
And if someone has an online presence, use word analysis-to-personality tools.

    Comment on verbal IQ tests:
Most I run into seem more crystallized IQ rare word tests with a bias for people who are into literature. I imagine a more “pure” test would be more dependent on analogy, cloze tests (with the answers depending on grokking subtle tone change in a sentence over knowing the words), and deep understanding of nuances in common words, over a rare world tests.

AKA there are a decent amount of people who probably have high fluid verbal IQs but don’t score as high as they would on verbal IQ tests because they don’t read much (or just read tons of pulp).

Verbal IQ tests are probably useful for people who’d want to go into a verbalish field where big vocabulary skillz gets you more $$$/girls, otherwise I wouldn’t bother. Ditto for spatial.

So my test battery would be Raven IQ => personality => pick a field that fits => do specialized verbal/spatial if necessary

After that, I have no idea besides “get entry level job”? (as training/ed seems to be a total train-wreck these days)

I’d go for a proctored WAIS out of muscle memory, but I’ve been out of the game for so long I don’t even remember why. The only online test I ever liked got taken down. If I had to guess I’d guess internet IQ tests have been improving with talented amateur interest. I want to code my own someday.
