Athletic Mental Energy Scale

This is interesting: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6291473/

Also interesting is the observation that this was developed in a sports context and not in, say, an academic or mental sports context (i.e. why aren’t the quants looking at math olympiad performance quantitatively?).

They break the subjective experience of high mental energy down into six second-order factors:

  • Confidence
  • Motivation
  • Vigor
  • Concentration
  • Calm/Composed
  • Tireless

These are more or less defined by the survey questions themselves: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6291473/table/T3/?report=objectonly

Please note this is likely the exact same quality that Lord Moran described as willpower/courage, which he equated with mental energy. In other words, this is effectively a self-assessment of one’s current courage level.

If I have all that right, then this is how one measures that all-important quality that we lack and need more of. Specifically we need moral courage, but physical courage would be a good start.

Speak for yourself bud, some of us, just a few, are meek as fuck, and will follow Christ to a glorious martyr’s death. We won’t take up arms, returning evil to evil.

(*Try to avoid ending sentences with prepositions).
